Year-Round School Monday

The nation's long summer is necessary for the mental and physical well-being of the child.
Some psychologists believe that too much study is bad to children's mental health and children need time away from school.
The freedom associated with summer vacation is good for students and their families.
However, the extended school day impacts parents and children's work, transportation, and schedules in a negative way.
As the school day is extended, some programs are excluded as schedules are tossed around.
Only 27 percent of respondents said the change would not affect them, and most said they would feel pressure from the change on their work schedule (26 percent), after school plans (10 percent) and transportation plans (5 percent).

★Year-Round School★

I think that we should not have year round school. I think that because I play soccer. In my opinion, I think that year-round school would prevent me from being able to play soccer. I play soccer in the summer so, it would be hard to manage the date & time.
Year-round school is helpful also. Students have academic achievement and they have lower drop-out rates. Year-round schools has a benefit because you don't forget as much as you do in the summer.

Year-Round School

Year-round school improves students' academic achievement.
I might have forgotten something during the summer because I usually don't study during the summer vacation.
Because students get breaks throughout the school year, they have opportunities to restart their learning.
The most popular form of year-round education is the 45-15 plan, where students attend school for 45 days and then get three weeks (15 days) off. The usual holiday breaks are still built into this calendar.
The percentage  increase in year-round school implementations from 1987 – 2003 is 544 %
The number of year-round schools in the U.S. is 3,181. Support for Year-Round Schools is 49.7 %
The beginning of a three-month break from school seems to be as much a harbinger of summer as barbecues and beach vacations. But, according to the National Association for Year-Round Education, more than 2.3 million U.S. public school students attended year-round schools in the 2002-03 school year. The number has steadily grown since the 1986-87 school year, when only about 360,000 students were enrolled in year-round schools. NAYRE also reports that 3,181 public schools now function year round, compared with 408 schools in 1986-87.

Disney World Drama - published piece.

The hot sun blared through the window. I am a very, VERY deep sleeper. I slept until about 7 am until I was awaken.
"What is it," I moaned Dyson shook me until I finally got out of bed.
"I thought you were gonna sleep forever! We have to get dressed to go to Disney World! Come on, hurry,"
I got into some shorts and my nikes. My t-shirt was purple and I brought a sweater in the car—just in case. We started driving and it took us about thirty minutes to get there. We first went to the big boat that took us to this island and we all, everyone, got off. We looked around and saw a parade. We headed towards it and watched from a side. Micky Mouse was at the highest part of the float while Donald and Daisy below him. After they went back into the entrance, some of the Disney princesses came out like Snow White, Princess Aura and Cinderella. Then some princess. I never thought it would end! Finally, it did.
"Well, that was cool!" My mom said. I think she was saying that because we're kids; what would you say?
Anyways, we were just leaving the parade and I saw the most BEAUTIFUL shop. "Mom, mom, MOM! We HAVE to go there," I expressed loudly so that everyone standing 10 feet or so away could hear.
"Oh...okay... But only for five minutes, hurry,"
Dyson and I bursted into the store. The store was all about  sweets! It was like HEAVEN! I searched around the store for something I liked. Cotton candy...no. Gum...no. Giant lollipop...YES YES!
I grabbed the lollipop and told my mother that I wanted the giant lollipop. She purchased that for me. Dyson, on the other hand got some cotton candy. Payce got licorice and he shared it with my mom. My grandparents didn't want anything. We walked to get something to eat. We got pretzels for Me, Dyson, Mimi, Papi, Mom and Payce. Mimi and I got cheese. We walked a little longer. We went to sit down. As we were sitting down, we saw a parade, just for princesses, no Micky mouse, no animals, just princesses. After the parade(s), we went to none other than the Animal Kingdom! We walked and walked and walked until finally, we found a board. The big board contained a huge map and smaller maps that you could take. I took one and my mother took one as well.
"Where we need to go is to right here," my mom was pointing to a blue dot. It was labeled *dinosaur* in small, blue letters. We headed straight towards the *dinosaur* ride. It appeared as a scientist lab outside with pictures of dinosaurs one the sides. We went inside. Once we got in there were two people getting off the ride saying, "that was AWESOME!" Or, "let's ride it again!"
I was already existed to ride the ride so, we got in. The ride was AWESOME! The ride was about us traveling back in time to the prehistoric times so, we got to see dinosaurs in he ride coming from side to side. Dyson, Mom, Payce and I rode it another four times but Mimi and Papi didn't want to ride it again, more or less, four more times. I was positive that this was going to be one of the best days ever!
We were leaving the dinosaur exhibit when I saw a spark in the sky. I had no clue what it was at first.
"Did you guys see that," I said looking up and into the sky.
"Whoa! That's so cool!" I now realized that all of us were looking up, at the fireworks! The fireworks seemed like they were up for forever! I remember when we were in Ohio to go to Cedar Point. In Ohio, there were fireworks too. A lot of places have fireworks. We finally left and went into the gift shop. I got a cool rock, a Micky mouse action figure(I decorated it) and a necklace. Dyson got a Star Wars Micky mouse action figure. We loved the gifts and we still do.

Disney Land

I saw the snow blowing around when I looked outside my bedroom window. I did NOT want to go outside but, today was going to be a miracle. I made my bed up and went downstairs to the kitchen. "Good morning," I said yawning.
"Hey Aria," my mom had just flipped a pancake, "So, are you ready to go?
"Go where?"
"Disney Land, don’t you remember?” My mother had put the pancakes on my plate.
"Where's Dyson?" Dyson is my younger brother.
"Right over here, good morning Aria!"
Dyson was lying down on the couch so that I couldn't see him. I soon spotted my baby brother, Payce. He was about a foot, maybe even less, from the TV. I took one look at their clothes; they were still in their pajamas.
"We'll be leaving in about 20 minutes. You should get your clothes on. I'll get Payce," she walked over, got Payce and took him to his room.
I went to my beautiful room and got my clothes on. I wore pants because I didn't want to be cold while we were still in Michigan. My hair was braided at the time so I pulled it to the side. I looked in my mirror and saw myself. I went down the wooden steps and went to Payce's room. It had been painted yellow and his banner had little monkeys on it. --My mom pulled his red polo on over his head and stood him on the floor.
"Boo!" I turned around
"Nice try, Dyson" Dyson giggled a little. My mom came out of Payce's room, we were ready to go. Ding dong!  My mom and Payce rushed to the door.
"Hey!" My mom waved. She opened the door for them as they stepped in. Dyson and I got our bags from upstairs in our rooms. I had my duffel bag and my other bag ready to go. Dyson had a Mario bag while my mom and Payce had two blue bags. We got in the car. It was black and big! We rented a car with seven seats because our normal car only had five. We loaded up the trunk and got all the snacks for the ride. It was going to take us about two days to get there but, I was going to enjoy ALL of it!
We all got settled in the car. After all, we were going to be stuck in that death trap for hours!
We soon started driving off our drive way. I was going to miss our house. Well, for the week we'd be gone.
Day 1
It was slightly cloudy as we drove by all of the snow.  We had a mini-TV in the car. It was probably as small as an iPad mini... Maybe even smaller! The three movies we brought were Shrek, Astro Boy and The Letter Factory. The Letter Factory was for Payce and Shrek and Astro Boy were for us. My mom, my grandma and grandpa were just talking away!
We had been driving for hours now but it felt like forever! I remembered my bag had stuff in it! I grabbed my pink bag, unzipped it and took out my book. Not like a reading book, but a sketch book. Dyson was on our moms computer, playing Mine-craft while Payce was sleeping, like a little angle! I started doodling cupcakes and sweets.
It was now noon. It did not seem that we were driving for maybe 11 or 12 hours. I asked Dyson if I could go on the computer (wouldn't you?) and at first he said a simple, "no"
I had to ask him over and over to get him to finally hand over that thing! So, I finally got to go on. I was wondering what to do but then, it hit me. I knew what I could do! First, I got a picture of a cartoon tiger. Then I traced it. I really liked it but, it took a very long time!
We suddenly stopped at a gas station.
“Mom,” I asked, “why are we stopping?”
“Dyson needs to use the bathroom” she replied, “we all should try too so when we get back on the road, we won’t need any stops for now,”
So the first people to get out were Dyson, Papi and Mimi (That’s what we call our grandparents). When they got back, my mom and I got out and inside the gas station. Payce was asleep so, we didn’t have to worry about bringing him in. That would’ve been hard! Anyway, after we took a pit stop, we got back on the road. Time goes by when you’re having fun, right? Well, not for this car! I was so bored.
It was now like maybe 10:15 we were now in Tennessee driving into Georgia. It was very late so we stopped at a hotel. Dyson and Papi slept in the living room while I my mom and Mimi slept in the actual (and bigger) room. As we all walked in, Dyson and I walked like zombies. Once we got in our pajamas, we fell fast asleep….
Day 2
The shower was running. I slowly got up. My mom was putting her hair up as my grandmother was taking a shower.
“Hey Mom…,” I said almost falling back asleep.
“Good morning Aria. How did you sleep?”
“Great…well, I’m trying to keep myself from falling over. Other than that, I’m fine,”
“Okay. But, get your clothes on for hot weather!” I didn’t know what she meant by that but I did as we soon stepped outside.
“It is soooo HOT!” my brother moaned as we walked out of the hotel and into the car.
‘If it was that hot in Georgia, then I wonder how hot it is in Florida,’ I thought to myself shading my eyes from the sun. We all got into the car and my grandfather started driving. We were about 1 hour and 30 minutes away from Florida. I got my doodle/sketch (whatever you call it) books out and started drawing.
“Mom, are we there yet?” I asked, even though I knew the answer to that silly question.
“No sweetie, in about thirty minutes,” she replied.
Payce was singing his version of a “song”
20 minutes later…
“Well, ladies…and gentleman… I present to you….FLORIDA!!!” Payce whirled around to his mother and started chanting with her!
In about ten minutes later, we were there, at the hotel and ready to unload!
I grabbed my belongings and one of my mom’s bags because she had the baby and I was helping out…like I always do. We all got our stuff out and went into the beautiful hotel.
We started to unload. It was very, and I mean very, HARD!
After we unloaded, Dyson and I watched TV. My mom, Mimi and Papi were all on the couch and watching TV--in the other room.
"Would you guy like to go to the pool?" My mom questioned picking Payce up.
"Yes, yes, YES!" My brother was exited now.
"Yeah, now?" I asked with a curious look on my face
"Sure, get ready," my mom headed for Payce's bag to get or his mini, baby-sized trunks. It had a little light green turtle on he bottom left corner. We all got ready and headed out. My grandmother and grandfather were asleep so we just made a note for them. We met three people in the pool. We played chicken fight. Chicken fight is where you get on top of each others shoulders and try to knock the other two over.
We played that and then we raced.
After we swam, we went to our hotel room.
Night
As my mom was in the shower.
After she got out, it was either Dyson or me, who was taking the next shower...
"I'm not taking a shower!" Dyson yelled
"Yes you are!" I argued.
"No! You are!" He said
"One of you, take your shower!" My mom yelled down the hall.
"Fine," I huffed
I finish my shower, quickly, and told Dyson, "now it's your turn."
Dyson, rather than quick, slow, took his shower. Dyson, Mom and I fell fast asleep on the bed while my grandparents slept on the couch-bed.
Day 3
The hot sun blared through the window. I am a very, VERY deep sleeper. I slept until about 7 am until I was awaken.
"What is it," I moaned Dyson shook me until I finally got out of bed.

We were sitting in the car driving back from Florida. We parked our car outside of our driveway. I had a lot of fun but, I was glad to be back in our house.
The first place I went to was the living room. I scanned around the Christmas tree but, found nothing. I looked behind the Christmas tree...still nothing. I was loosing hope. I went to my bedroom to go to sleep. It was really late and I was tired.
"Aria, wake up...come on," Dyson was now pulling me out of my bed.
"Yeah, what is it?" I replied, dragging myself out of my bed.
"Come on, I'll show you!"
We went down the steps. He struggled to pull my arm. I was not used to waking up so....early! Usually, I am a very, very, deep sleeper.
"Look!" He was now pointing to our stockings. Suddenly, my face lit up.
"Have you checked them yet?"
"No, not yet." Dyson put a hand inside his stocking.
"Whoa!" He pulled his hand out and started counting the money.
"100, 120, 140! Whoa! That's a lot of money! Who did it though?" He paused,
"SANTA! He did it!" I stared at Dyson.
"I think it was Dad," I replied crossing my arms.
"Potato tomato, does it really matter?"
I was thinking, yes. Instead, I said no.
"Mom! Look what we found in our stockings!!!" Dyson was now jumping up and down.
"Cool who gave it to you?" She replied
"Santa--"
"Dad!" I interrupted. Dyson gave me one of his looks that means, seriously did you really have to say that?
"Oh...cool!" We were now all in a big hug! Payce came in from he side and we all giggled.
We, Dyson and I got souvenirs I got a cool rock, a Micky mouse action figure(I decorated it) and a necklace. Dyson got a Star Wars Micky mouse action figure. We loved the gifts and we still do.

"I thought you were gonna sleep forever! We have to get dressed to go to Disney Land! Come on, hurry,"
I got into some shorts and my nikes. My t-shirt was purple and I brought a sweater in the car--just in case.
